TAWUG CORNER
9(TAWUG CORNER are BBS Question and Answer sessions and
tips concerning AppleWorks.)
;APPLEWORKS TIP: What is the easiest way to determine what ;
9the Page Length (PL) should be when printing a data base &
file...what are the rules to follow?
<QUESTION: Is there an easy way to figure out the PL for >
<any DB file...i.e., if you are printing 1" labels , you set ;
9the PL to 1, but if you have a longer file, say a screen =
;full, what and how do you determine the PL length? This is
in a labels format.
:ANSWER: You pressed OA-P, right? and chose "design a
label report"?
QUESTION: Yes.
<ANSWER: Your whole database (categories) should appear ;
9on the screen...From this screen, you can design how you <
:want your printout to look...in cooperation with OA-O. If <
:you check the space above the report format, you will see ?
=instructions for designing the report. Putting the cursor on ?
=the first letter of any category...OA-D deletes it from that
report.
<QUESTION: Okay, I have a 30 field DB...and want two (or -
3) of these to print on ONE sheet of paper.
ANSWER: OK...
=ANSWER: As I described above, get rid of cats you don't ?
=want.. this will not delete them permanently...just for this
printout.
QUESTION: I need them all.
7ANSWER: I think I get it..you want all 30 cats to 3
print..but you want several records on each page.
QUESTION: Right!
IANSWER: OK... start with the knowledge that 66 lines = a page. You H
Fcan fit 2 records per page with 33 line pages...or 3 records per page K
Iwith 22 line pages... etc. I'd suggest the latter. After you set up the K
Iway you want it to look, hit OA-O. There is no "exact" 1/3 page, so you F
Dmust get the closest setting..I think it will be something like 3.7 I
Ginches PL = 3.7. However, there is an easy way to check.... underneath J
Hthat setting, AppleWorks estimates lines per page...see if you can fool H
Fwith it until this number is 22. This should work, with one caveat... L
JFrom the main menu, choose other options. Chose printer... option 7... on I
Gthe printer you are using, be sure to set the option that says "Top of K
Iform" to NO!! AppleWorks is asking if your printer knows what a "Top of J
HForm" command is.. you must tell it "NO", otherwise, only one form will
appear on each page.
ISTATEMENT: Oli, she should also make sure that the 22nd line is blank M
Kso that the forms don't run together. Also, she should also make sure that I
Gthe line is printed even if blank..... except the 22nd line will never L
Jhave anything on it... because you can only design label reports up to 15 8
lines long... Print all lines even if blank... right.

APPLEWORKS 2.1.....what it is, when released and other information.
JQUESTION: What's the word on Appleworks GS and Bob Lissner's update to
JANSWER: OK, to the best of my knowledge, 2.1 does exist.. AppleWorks )
GS is for real, but late fall delivery.
QUESTION: What will 2.1 have?
DANSWER: 2.1 has NO additional features.. Bug fixes, mainly... @
recalculating only changed cells in SS (if you call that a new
feature)
QUESTION: So how much will they 'get' us for the 2.1 upgrade?
GANSWER: upgrade...no, terminology is everything..."upgrade is not M
Kbeing used..some other term, implying no new features is being used... and M
Kthe "update" (I think that's it) is free. They want to build a database of @
>AppleWorks users...Unfortunately, Apple threw away all of the 6
registrations of the first several years of sales...
JANSWER: I understand the AppleWorks Forum, August issue, will have a
lot of info on it...
